What Are Birthday Cards in Tarot?

Every birth date maps to one or two Major Arcana cards. Your life card (birth card) is calculated from the sum of the digits of your birth date, reduced to a number between 1 and 22, with 22 corresponding to The Fool.

When the sum exceeds 22, a second card — your soul card — appears, representing the soul lesson beneath your surface journey.

Your birthday cards act as your personal archetypes: recurring themes, gifts and challenges that weave through your life story.

How It Works

We follow the method popularized by Mary K. Greer: add every digit of your birth date, reduce the total to 22 or below for your life card, and when the total is above 22, subtract 22 (repeating if needed) to find your soul card.
